THE SPIRIT OF WEAH

Do you know that the one-time Liberian footballer began his footballing career at the age of 15? Now you know. His abilities and doggedness on the field of play attracted Claude Le Roy (The Cameroon National Team Coach as at that time) who discussed with Arsene Wenger (Coach of AS Monaco as at that time) about Weah’s unique abilities and instantaneously; George Weah was moved to France and got signed to AS Monaco in the year 1988—The first time of him leaving the shores of Liberia into Europe.

The one-time footballer was once named the FIFA World Player of the Year and in the year 1995; George won the Ballon d’Or award because of his football prowess (The first and only African player to win both awards till date). In 1989, 1994 and 1995, he was also named the African footballer of the year.

This man became an outstanding footballer overtime due to his tenacious nature and was pronounced the African Footballer of the Century in the year 1996.

At 35, he retired from professional football and decided to join politics. He contested in the Liberian presidential election but his opponents cited his lack of formal education as a handicap to his ability to lead the country.

Despite the setback, his determination for success made him go back to school….At age 35!...Can you beat that?

He got a high school diploma at age 40; Graduated from DeVry University in Florida with a degree in Business Management and attained a Master of Public Administration Degree (MPA) from the Devry University in Miami, Florida USA.

Then he contested again for the presidential election and became the president of Liberia in 2018 at the age of 51. It took George 16 good years to achieve his dream of becoming the President of Liberia because of TENACITY.

Tenacity is persistently and doggedly pursuing an option or solution until it succeeds. It’s about pushing through barriers of doubt, self-limiting beliefs, and most importantly, having the will power to persevere despite all odds.
