OGECHI: THAT 3RD YEAR STUDENT OF UNILAG

So, Daddy told me about a certain 3rd year student of Unilag presently studying Accounting. Yes, this is a true-life story but for privacy, her real name is being shielded (So Ogechi is just a name given to the character of the story).

So Ogechi and her family recently moved to a new and well-furnished 2-bedroom self-contain apartment somewhere in Aguda, Lagos Nigeria. Information has it that before she and her family moved to Aguda; They lived at Itire in a 1-room apartment for good 35years; Until God uses Oge to liberate the family.

After her senior WAEC; She willingly told the parent not to bother about her and focus on her siblings simply because she knew how her parents struggled so hard to make sure she graduated from Secondary School. Without being told, she already knew University Education na one chance. Oge simply used her tongue to count her teeth.

That faithful morning, she called her parent and asked them for one favour: “Daddy and Mummy, please do you know anyone that can give me a job or someone i can work with so that I can assist you people?”. According to my Dad; The question from Oge to her parents broke down Oge’s Dad that the old man made sure she got a sales girl job offer from a church member and from that day Oge has NEVER looked back.

A sales girl, currently studying Accounting in the University of Lagos (Part-time) and has single handedly moved her parents from a one room apartment somewhere in Itire where she and all her siblings were born and raised by their parents for good 35years to a well-furnished 2bedroom self-contain.

Now here’s the catch;

1.    Ogechi is still in 3rd year in Unilag. In fact, she’s currently running a part-time program.

2.    Ogechi does a sales girl job from Monday to Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, she’s in school attending lectures.

3.    Ogechi doesn’t have a boyfriend or sugar daddy that’s giving her any money or supporting her financially (Before the Nigerian Society will tag the success to a man).

4.    Ogechi started saving for the house and her part-time program the very day she started working (No matter how little).

5.     Ogechi finished Secondary School 2015 and started working as a sales girl. Gained admission into Unilag as a part-time student to study Accounting in 2018 and now in 3rd year.

a.     Can you see the years it took her?? Since 2015 she finished Secondary School. This is already Year 2021.  Success doesn't just happen over night; It takes time.

b.    Take a step back and ask yourself: What if her parents were financially capable and all things went as planned where she gained admission in 2016 like some of her peers who are already graduates and working presently. But it’s not how far readers, it’s how well.

6.    When Ogechi’s Boss found how much she has raised for the House rent regardless the little she was earning from her salary; The Boss was motivated to assist her with 70% addition of all the expenses + her school fees. Can you imagine that?!

According to my Dad, Ogechi was focused. Never bothered by her peers that left her behind; Some are already graduates, some doing their Masters program while some are even married. Yes, there were times she was bothered and frustrated with life based on the situations she found herself. But she was focused regardless.

For reminder’s sake, she’s still in the university as you read this story. And someone will tell me Hardwork+Patience doesn’t pay? Think again my friend…..Think!

I don’t know whoever you are reading this; But hear it today; If Ogechi (A 300Level student of Accounting in Unilag—Doing a part-time program) can pull this off; Then you can do it and even more.

Ø  Just be focused. Dedicated. Learn to put God in whatever you do; In fact, put God first in whatever you do.

Ø  Understand the times and season—Everybody get their time and everyone of us go definitely blow as long as you are dedicated and steadfast to the course.

Ø   In whatever you do; After God, Family follows. And learn to always stay in your place and stick to your lane and manuscript.

Ø  Be careful of unnecessary envy and jealousy. NEVER compare yourself to another individual. We all have a story to tell. Just make sure yours is inspiring enough to motivate someone out there like that of Oge’s

Ø  Finally, Be patient at all cost. And after achieving the spirit and morals of being patient; Never be greedy. Always remember where you come from. Remember those that fought and spill their blood for you…..Your Parent!

Till next time……………….God bless you for reading this
